Coopers Cross Collaborates with Stoney Road Press

We are proud to have worked with Stoney Road press on the recent commission of three stunning Richard Gorman prints for Coopers Cross.

Stoney Road Press is a fine art print studio that since 2001 has been collaborating with Ireland’s leading contemporary artists to produce limited-edition hand-made prints, books, sculptures and tapestries.

Based in the North Docks, Stoney Road Press is an independently run, professional fine art print studio. It is also the only Irish member of the IFPDA | International Fine Print Dealers Association, a body committed to promoting the highest standards of quality, connoisseurship and appreciation of fine art prints. Combining traditional printing techniques with innovative digital technology, the studio is transformed for each different collaboration, producing a body of work that reflects the individual skill of each artist.

A gifted colourist, Richard Gorman is best known for his paintings and works on paper exploring the dynamic interplay between geometric forms. Infused with a sense of vitality, Gorman’s offbeat shapes appear mobile – as if floating past, wiggling around or colliding with one another, like dancers in motion. Often graced with a subtly playful or humorous undertone, their generosity of spirit is enhanced by a striking colour palette, varying from meditative blues to piquant acid tones.

His works on paper offer a delicacy and fragility in counterpoint to his more robust oils on canvas, but both strands of Gorman’s practice draw their power from the compositional tension between boldly simplified blocks of colour. The wood used to make the three woodblock prints in Coopers Cross was sourced from a timber merchant only a few yards from Coopers Cross.
