Coopers Cross mixed-use campus to set new sustainable building standard in Ireland.

• Sustainably manufactured aluminium fins will reduce the need for artificial cooling and heating, leading to lower operational carbon and significant energy savings for occupiers.
• Architectural fins are manufactured from low-carbon aluminium produced in Norway using only renewable energy.

Coopers Cross, a six-acre, mixed-use campus jointly developed by Kennedy Wilson and Cain International, is setting new standards for future-ready sustainable commercial accomodation. The development team is partnering with Alucraft to install 2,000 low-carbon architectural fins on the façade of the office buildings within the scheme, a first in Ireland.

The fins, which are approximately 65 centimetres deep and 15 metres tall, are mounted vertically and run perpendicular to the façade of the buildings. In addition to enhancing aesthetics, the fins will regulate solar gain and reduce the need for artificial cooling and heating, leading to lower operational carbon and significant energy savings for future occupiers at Coopers Cross.

The fins have been produced by Alucraft using Hydro’s low carbon raw aluminium. Hydro are a global leader in renewable energy based in Norway. Using innovative construction technologies, the fins are manufactured from a low-carbon aluminium product range called Hydro REDUXA, which is produced by using electricity from renewable sources: hydropower, wind, and solar. This process reduces the embodied carbon generated by more than 75% of standard equivalent products and decreases the carbon footprint in Coopers Cross by 1.9 million Kg Co2, which is equivalent to 2,365 flights from Dublin to New York.

The six-acre Coopers Cross campus is targeting world-leading sustainability credentials, including targeted LEED and WELL Platinum, BREEAM Outstanding and is enabled by powerful data driven intelligence, having received a Platinum SmartScore certification.
