The International Centre for the Image operated by PhotoIreland launches with inaugural exhibition ‘Foreword
The International Centre for the Image, an exciting new permanent cultural centre in Dublin, has officially opened to the public. Operated by PhotoIreland, the multi-use cultural hub is located at the Coopers Cross campus in Dublin’s North Docklands and will offer visitors a year-round programme of exhibitions and cultural events celebrating photography and the visual arts, attracting leading Irish and international artists.
The inaugural exhibition, Foreword, presents works from local and international artists that represent a broad set of art practices around photography, including both moving and still-image works.
In addition to the diverse and accessible programme of exhibitions and events, the dedicated 10,000 sq. ft. cultural space at Coopers Cross will also host a gallery, library, bookshop, a workshop, and artists’ studios.
The people of North Docklands have a long history in the creative arts and having the International Centre for the Image at Coopers Cross, will give the next generation of visual artists an opportunity to develop their skills and practice in their own locality.
Founded in 2010, PhotoIreland is a leading Irish cultural organisation, funded by the Arts Council, supporting photography and the visual arts, establishing the internationally recognised annual PhotoIreland Festival and previously operating The Library Project, an art bookshop and cultural hub in Temple Bar.
Earlier this year, PhotoIreland was announced as the cultural partner of Coopers Cross, a landmark six-acre mixed use development in the heart of the Docklands, jointly developed by Kennedy Wilson and Cain International.

Ángel Luis González, Director of PhotoIreland said, “The opening of the International Centre for the Image is a significant milestone for PhotoIreland as it consolidates all of our projects under one roof at Coopers Cross while also opening new opportunities for people to engage with the world of photography and the visual arts. Our ambition is to create a cultural destination that attracts leading international and Irish artists, provides workspace to emerging local artists and connects with the community and its rich history”.
Peter Collins, Global Sustainability Officer, Kennedy Wilson said, “We are delighted to welcome PhotoIreland to Coopers Cross as our partner and operator of the cultural space at the scheme. PhotoIreland has a long-standing track record of supporting the arts and artists in Ireland and the International Centre for the Image will allow it to continue that legacy.”
“Placemaking and activation at the campus have been a key element of our approach throughout the development of Coopers Cross and the International Centre for the Image will play an integral part in creating a destination that is vibrant, diverse and welcoming to all.”
