At the heart of Coopers Cross lies the Sean O’Casey Park Sensory Playground. Designed by the Decorators (socially engaged designers) with Tilting The Lens, a Disability-led organisation and DOBE™ certified Disability Owned and Operated Business Enterprise, the playground caters to children aged two to eleven, offering an inclusive environment that stimulates a variety of senses.
Inspired by Sean O’Casey, who was visually impaired, the playground prioritises accessibility for all users. The equipment within the playground transcends traditional play apparatus, incorporating elements that engage auditory, tactile, and cognitive abilities. Examples include musical instruments for creative exploration, memory games to challenge problem-solving skills, and unique communication tubes that amplify and transmit sound.
For those seeking a more physical challenge, a climbing frame, slide, fireman’s pole, and miniature basketball court are available. Additionally, a designated quiet area surrounded by greenery provides a space for relaxation and reflection.
The Coopers Cross Sensory Playground fosters a stimulating and inclusive environment for children of various ages and abilities.
